Description

Equestrian Centre

Welcome to the Bishop Burton College Equestrian Centre.

We are situated at the heart of Bishop Burton College on a 362 hectares working farm. The facilities have been developed to meet the needs of our full and part-time students, and form part of the Bishop Burton College Centre of Vocational Excellence in Equine.

Bishop Burton College Equestrian Centre is a BHS Approved Riding School and Examination Centre. We are also a BHS 'Where to Train' centre up to BHSI level. The centre is open to the public for riding lessons so please check the lessons page for details. We can also offer intensive tuition towards BHS exams, tailor made for you.

The Bishop Burton Arena designed to hold equestrian competitions and events as well as lectures and practical demonstrations is the College's largest single building and is central to the redeveloped equine unit.

We are proud to have been approved as an Equestrian training base for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Our facilities will now feature in the London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp Guide (the Guide), which will be used by National Olympic Committees (NOCs) when selecting their training bases for use in the run up to, and during the games.

We look forward to welcoming you

Kim Knightley

Director, Bishop Burton College Equestrian Centre

Bishop Burton Arena

Built to the highest standards, the £3million Bishop Burton Arena was officially opened in October 2008 by HRH The Princess Royal.

Measuring 5060m2, the arena has a working surface of 65 x 35m which benefits from the latest dust-free wax/sand covering and is suitable for all disciplines.

Designed to hold competitions and events as well as lectures and practical demonstrations, the arena also houses:

  • Five flexible learning spaces
  • Seating for 500 spectators
  • Commentary boxes
  • PA system
  • Therapy rooms
  • Demonstration rooms
  • Viewing galleries
  • Hospitality areas

The building complies with current Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regulations.

Cross country courses

We have four British Eventing-approved cross country courses at BE90, BE100, Novice and Intermediate levels, all set within the college's magnificent estate.

Continually upgraded, the courses change regularly to give competitors at the college's bi-annual affiliated Horse Trials, a much needed challenge. A new addition for 2008 is the brand new water jump. The grounds are tended by expert staff to ensure the going is as good as possible at all times of the year.

Hacking track

Our newly opened hacking track meanders for six kilometres across the College's estate and farmland and offers riders the chance to exercise their horses safely while taking in some of the East Riding's most stunning scenery.

As well as a raft of dedicated equine facilities, we are also able to offer clients the use of other campus resources such as:

  • A team of expert staff available at all times and experienced in all equestrian disciplines
  • On-site accommodation
  • Catering facilities including cafes and a coffee shop
  • Parking for cars and horse boxes, including overnight facilities
  • Toilets and shower rooms, including disabled conveniences
